Tyrconnell is within easy reach of Cairns International Port and Airport to Tropical North Queensland, Australia. Just 150km west by road, and right off the beaten track, you will find yourself in another world. These rugged tree-studded hills were once home to 10,000 people scrambling for gold. Now a bush retreat, 120 years ago Tyrconnell was the most famous mine on the Hodgkinson goldfield. Several original buildings and machines remain testament to that bustling era.

Tyrconnell offers guests a very special experience. Overnight guest numbers are limited to 12, and the owners of the mine, Andrew Bell and Cate Harley, are the hosts. Although Andrew and his family mined for gold at Tyrconnell in the 1980s, the focus is now on restoring the heritage assets on site and sharing it with visitors.
