Cottage Accommodation, Camping and Meals

To really get a feel for Australia, there's nothing quite like a night in the bush. Experience vivid sunsets, stars that seem close enough to touch, and silence that is broken only by the crackle of a campfire.

Tyrconnell offers a choice of 3 heritage style cottages, or camping. Tyrconnell is a refuge for orphaned and injured native wildlife. For this reason, guests with dogs are asked to keep them on a leash at all times. Pets are not permitted in the new cottages.

The 3 cottages are privately situated around the 110 acre property. For a truly authentic outback experience, the restored mine manager's cottage is rich in charm and character. This breezy timber and iron house has 3 bedrooms (1 queen room, 1 double room and 1 twin room), shared bathroom, lounge, verandah and kitchen (with gas cook top and ice chest but no fridge).

Cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are provided, or you can opt for a sumptuous dinner with mine owners, Andy and Cate, in their cottage. The manager's house is situated near the dam, attracting rich bird life and providing a place to swim in the wet season. The 2 new cottages each have central lounge/kitchen and two bedrooms (1 queen room, 1 twin room) with ensuite bathrooms.

Wide front and back verandahs, a bar fridge and overhead fans are features of the new cottages, one of which offers outstanding views of the surrounding countryside and the setting sun. Gas cook top, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery are provided. All cottages are solar powered which restricts the use of appliances such as hairdryers.

Camping

Toilet Blocks on camping site
The campground is located near Tyrconnell Creek (seasonal only) and is grassed and tiered. Spacious timber and iron ablution blocks offer hot showers and flush toilets (6 of each), and a central BBQ shelter is available for use. The site is unpowered.

A conscious effort is made to keep guest numbers to a minimum in the campground to avoid crowding. Tents, mattresses, swags and other camping equipment are available for hire.

Meals

Freshly cooked meals, such as lunch platters, gourmet BBQs, traditional roast dinners and Thai curries are available to all overnight guests. Meals are served with Andy and Cate in their miners cottage, with it's spacious deck commanding 180º views of tree studded hills. For groups over 12 an outdoor shelter is used, and groups over 25 are provided for by our caterer. Advance notice (minimum 24 hours) is required for meals to ensure all ingredients can be purchased fresh.
